(DANBURY, CT) – Today, Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz and Danbury elected and town officials announced $2 million in state bonding dollars to build a two-level garage accommodating roughly 100 parking spaces behind the Greater Danbury Community Health Center.
When completed, the new garage will allow more ease and accessibility for patients to Connecticut Institute for Communities (CIFC), allowing for more clients to be able to receive healthcare and additional services provided by the center.
“This $2 million dollar allocation for CIFC will allow the center to serve more patients, children and families, helping facilitate our administration’s goal in creating a more affordable, heathier Connecticut,” said Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz. “I’m excited to see the finished product when this project come to fruition, and all of the patients who will benefit from the services provided by CIFC and the Greater Danbury Community Health Center.”
Today, CIFC is the only organization in Western Connecticut that combines health care, education, human services and housing support in a coordinated approach by providing direct services and engaging a host of community partners. The institute is dedicated to advancing the area’s local communities and fostering greater opportunities for low- and moderate-income individuals and families.
“This is not the most glamorous project I’ve ever made a bonding request for: a two-story parking garage with 100 spaces for staff and patients,” said State Senator Julie Kushner. “But this parking garage project will serve as the foundation for 80 units of affordable housing for area senior citizens, and it furthers the vision of the Connecticut Institute for Communities to better serve the region. That’s what today is really all about.”
“CIFC has filled a need for health care (including COVID-19 testing and vaccinations), education, and housing for an otherwise underserved people. It is especially welcome by my constituents in Danbury, who use its comprehensive services. I'm happy to have joined my colleagues in helping to fund more senior housing and parking,” said State Representative Bob Godfrey.
"The construction of this garage will have a tremendously positive impact to those who utilize the resources provided at the CT Institute for Communities," said State Representative Kenneth Gucker. "Currently, there are not any free, accessible options for parking for this location– metered parking can be expensive, and the closest garage is not in walking distance. The garage will ensure that individuals have one less thing to consider when visiting. Additionally, in the future, a three-floor senior housing facility will be built on top of the garage. In the midst of a real estate crisis, I am thrilled that we will be able to provide affordable housing in Downtown Danbury to those who need it."
