Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz released the following statements on the votes cast this afternoon by Connecticut’s electoral college for President and Vice President of the United States:
Governor Lamont said, “I want to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on receiving Connecticut’s seven electoral college votes. During the historic 2020 presidential election, we saw record participation from voters across our state and country despite the challenges of a global pandemic. While today’s meeting is a symbolic moment in our democratic process, it will ensure that the voice of our voters is heard and assist in the peaceful transfer of power. With this transfer, Connecticut looks forward to partnering and governing with the Biden administration – one that will unify and move our nation forward.”
Lt. Governor Bysiewicz said, “Today is a historic day as Connecticut casts its electoral votes on behalf of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris. I could not be more proud of the record number of voters who came out across the state and across the nation to make their voices heard. This is the final step in electing our President and Vice President to the White House, which will assist with the smooth and peaceful transfer of power. This vote continues a rich tradition in our democratic process — ensuring that those who are serving in our nation’s highest office are elected by the people for the people.”
