DRS to Offer Relief to Taxpayers Affected by the Texas and Oklahoma February Winter Storms

Taxpayer Advisory - Issued 3/2/2021

The Department of Revenue Services (the "Department") announced today that it would provide relief to taxpayers affected by the Texas and Oklahoma February winter storms in accordance with Conn. Gen. Stat. § 12-2(a)(5). Specifically, affected taxpayers that are unable to timely file their returns or pay their taxes as a direct result of such storms may apply to the Department for relief from penalty and interest.

To request relief, affected taxpayers should contact the Department if they receive notice that penalties or interest have been imposed on them. The Department will consider requests for relief based on the individual circumstances of each affected taxpayer. In making its decision, the Department will consider whether the taxpayer filed a return or paid tax by the disaster relief extended due date set forth by the IRS for the tax type, if applicable.
