State Police Detectives Investigate Cheshire Officer-Involved Shooting

          Cheshire, CT (June 23, 2018): Connecticut State Police Detectives assigned to Central District Major Crime are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Cheshire.

           On June 22, 2018 at approximately 7:30 p.m, Cheshire Police Department responded to 137 Fairway Drive in Cheshire for a reported domestic disturbance.

           Upon arrival, Cheshire police officers found that a male suspect was armed with a handgun and refused to comply with Cheshire officer’s commands. The suspect eventually barricaded himself in the residence.

           Through the course of the interaction, at least one Cheshire police officer discharged their duty weapon striking the suspect at least one time. The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injury and was transported to a local hospital. There were no reported injuries to the Cheshire police officers.

            The 29 year old suspect was taken into custody by Cheshire Police Department on charges related to the domestic disturbance.

            At the request of the Cheshire police chief and the New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office, state police detectives from Central District Major Crime responded to the scene and assumed the officer-involved shooting investigation.

           The name of the officer/s are being withheld at this time.

UPDATE: State Police Detectives Make Arrest in Cheshire Officer-Involved Shooting and Cheshire Police Department Make Arrest in Cheshire Domestice Violence Disturbance

   Connecticut State Police Detectives assigned to Central District Major Crime arrested the suspect, Cameron Pernin, on charges related to the Cheshire Police officer-involved shooting.
   On June 22, 2018 approximately 7:04 p.m., Cheshire Police responded to 137 Fairway Drive to investigate a reported domestic violence disturbance. The victim of the domestic violence was able to flee the residence upon the arrival of Cheshire Police.
   The suspect, Cameron Pernin, then exited his home armed with a semi-automatic handgun and began firing at officers. Three Cheshire police officers returned fire, striking Pernin at least one time. Pernin sustained non-life-threatening injuries and retreated into his home where he remained barricaded.
   Cheshire Police made contact with Pernin and were able to talk him into surrendering a short time later. Pernin was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
   On June 25, 2018, upon his release from the hospital, Cameron Pernin (age 29) of 137 Fairway Dr., Cheshire was returned to Cheshire Police Department by Cheshire police officers, were he was charged by Cheshire Police with charges related to the domestic violence disturbance and held on a $500,000.00 court set bond.
   State police detectives from CDMC also responded to Cheshire Police Department where they charged Cameron Pernin with Criminal Attempt to Commit Assault in the First Degree (2 counts) and Criminal Pos-session of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon in relation to the officer-involved shooting and held on a $750,000.00 bond.
   Pernin was transported to Court for arraignment.
The officer-involved shooting investigation remains active by the New Haven State's Attorney's Office and Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime detectives.
