On February 13, 2017 at approximately 11:54 p.m. troopers from Troop H - Hartford observed a 2000 Toyota Avalon traveling on I-84 in West Hartford with improper registration plates. Troopers attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop, however the operator failed to stop and continued eastbound now at a high rate of speed.
The operator, Edwin Chevere, eventually crashed the Toyota on the I-84 eastbound exit 40 off-ramp in West Hartford. Chevere then fled the scene on foot leading troopers on a foot pursuit. A short time later Chevere was located and taken into custody on I-84.
Troopers located approximately 46.5 grams (300 baggies) of suspected heroin, 18.2 grams of suspected cocaine and a small amount of marijuana both on Chevere and in the Toyota. Chevere also appeared to be intoxicated.
Chevere was transported to Troop H - Hartford where he was fingerprinted and photographed. The illegal narcotics were seized and transported to Troop H where they were held as evidence.
