State Police Detectives Investigate New Milford Police-Involved Shooting
New Milford, CT. (August 29, 2017): Connecticut State Police detectives assigned to Western District Major Crime are investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred in New Milford.
On August 28, 2017 at approximately 4:50 p.m., New Milford police officers responded to 47 Outlook Rd. for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival a male suspect exited the residence armed with a shotgun, and ran into the woods. New Milford police officers set up a perimeter, and requested a police negotiator and K9 team to assist with extracting the armed male from the woods.
Eventually the male exited the woods and began approaching officers with the weapon in his hand. The male ignored New Milford police officer’s repeated demands to stop approaching, and officer’s repeated demands to drop the shotgun. As a result at least one New Milford police officer discharged at least round from a New Milford Police Department weapon striking the male. New Milford police officers immediately rendered first aid, and EMS transported the male to Danbury Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
At the request of the State's Attorney's Office and the New Milford Police Department, Connecticut State Police detectives from Western District Major Crime responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) will assist with the investigation and conduct a post-mortem examination to determine cause and manner of death. The name of the deceased and involved officer/s is being withheld at this time.
