CENTRAL DISTRICT MAJOR CRIME DETECTIVES INVESTIGATE
NEW BRITAIN POLICE-INVOLVED SHOOTING
New Britain, CT. (December 14, 2017): On December 14, 2017 at approximately 6:43 p.m., New Britain Police Officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Chapman Street and Chapman Court. This vehicle is suspected to have been involved in a series of armed carjackings in New Britain and surrounding towns over at least the last two weeks. The most recent incidents in New Britain were on Monday of this week which included shots being fired at one victim and in a second incident on Monday a victim being pistol whipped.
This evening, as New Britain Police
Officers attempted to stop the above vehicle and apprehend the occupants, more
than one New Britain Police Officer discharged their firearms. Three individuals in the vehicle were hit by
gunfire; one of whom has succumbed to his injuries. The other two are expected to recover. There was at least one firearm in possession
of the occupants.
The New
Britain Police Officers involved were not injured.
At the request of the Middletown State’s Attorney Office, Detectives from Central District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene and have assumed the investigation.
