STATE POLICE PROMOTE 20 TROOPERS

   (MIDDLETOWN, CT – December 8, 2016)– The Connecticut State Police promoted 20 Troopers during a ceremony at the State Police Training Academy on December 8, 2016.

   Dr. Dora B. Schriro, Commissioner of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, formally promoted the Troopers during the event.  Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman also attended and addressed the promotees.

      The following Troopers were promoted:

Major James Canon Major Canon was promoted from Captain and will remain in his present assignment in the Labor Relations Unit.  He has been a Trooper for 20 years and has earned a Medal for Meritorious Service and four Unit Citation Awards. Major Canon earned a bachelor’s degree from Westfield State University and a Juris Doctorate from Western New England University. In addition, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He lives in Windsor Locks with his family.

Major Michael Davis  Major Davis was promoted from Captain and will take on his new assignment as Commanding Officer of the Office of Professional Standards.  As Captain, he was Commanding Officer of the Office of Training and Support Services. A Trooper for 22 years, he has earned a department Medal for Meritorious Service and two Unit Citation Awards. He previously served as Commanding Officer at Troop A in Southbury and Troop B in North Canaan. Major Davis earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and is currently completing his master’s degree at Western CT State University.  He lives with his family in Cheshire.

Major Stavros Mellekas  Major Mellekas was promoted from Captain and most recently served in the Office of Professional Standards. His new assignment will be as Commanding Officer of the Western District. As a Trooper for 22 years, Major Mellekas has earned two Medals for Meritorious Service and nine Unit Citation Awards. A resident of Bristol, he previously served as a Police Officer at the U.S. Capitol.

Captain Timothy P. Madden  Captain Madden was promoted from Lieutenant , where he was Commanding Officer of Troop D in Danielson. He will now be Executive Officer in the Central District. During his 24 years as a State Trooper, Captain Madden has served at Troops C, D, E and K; in the Polygraph Unit; in the Office of Professional Standards; and in the Casino Unit. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island, a master’s degree from Western New England University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He lives in Danielson with his family.

Lieutenant David Montini  Lt. Montini was promoted from Sergeant and will be assigned as Commanding Officer of Troop A in Southbury. His most recent assignment was in the Statewide Narcotics Task Force. Lt. Montini has been a Trooper for 18 year and has earned seven Unit Citation Awards and the TFC Allan J. Tuskowski Award for Excellence in Training. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and formerly worked as a police officer in Meriden. He lives in Southbury with his family.

Lieutenant Eric Peck Lt. Peck was promoted from Sergeant and has been reassigned from the Central District Major Crime Squad to Commanding Officer of Troop F in Westbrook. During his 16 years as a State Trooper, Lt. Peck has earned a Medal for Meritorious Service and two Unit Citation Awards. He has served in the Statewide Narcotics Task Force, as well as at Troop K in Colchester, Troop I in Bethany and Troop H in Hartford. Lt. Peck earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern CT State University and previously served as an officer with the New Britain Police Dept. and the Woodbridge Police Dept. He lives in East Hampton with his family.

Master Sergeant John Aiello M/Sgt. Aiello was promoted from Sergeant and most recently served at Troop D in Danielson.  He will now be Executive Officer at Troop E in Montville.  M/Sgt. Aiello has served on the Major Crime Squad, as the Thompson Resident Trooper and in the Casino Unit. He has earned a Medal for Meritorious Service and a Medal for Outstanding Service. M/Sgt. Aiello holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and lives in Northeast Connecticut.

Master Sergeant Christopher Sharland  M/Sgt. Sharland was promoted from Sergeant and last served at Troop C in Tolland.  His new assignment will be as Executive Officer at Troop D in Danielson. A Trooper for nearly 24 years, M/Sgt Sharland has earned the agency’s Medal for Lifesaving and a Unit Citation Award. He formerly served at Troop D in Danielson and Troop K in Colchester, as well as in the Casino Unit. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he lives in Somers with his family.

Sergeant Brett Davison  Sgt. Davison was promoted from Trooper First Class and will now serve at Troop D in Danielson; he most recently served in the Tolland Resident Trooper’s Office. During his nine years as a Trooper, Sgt. Davison has earned a Medal for Outstanding Service and has served at Troop H in Hartford, Troop C in Tolland and as a Mansfield Resident Trooper. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Western New England College. Sgt. Davison lives in Willington with his family.

Sergeant Gennaro DelGais Sgt. Gennaro DelGais was promoted from Trooper First Class; his last assignment was at Troop I in Bethany. His new assignment will be at Troop F in Westbrook. Sgt. DelGais has been a Trooper for 17 years. He has earned the M/Sgt. Slattery Shooting Award and has served at Troop G in Bridgeport and in the Accreditation Unit. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Marist College and is certified as a DARE officer. He makes his home in Milford.

Sergeant Bryan Ferrucci Sgt. Ferrucci was promoted from Detective in the Computer Crimes Unit. He has been assigned to Troop B in North Canaan. In his 17 years as a State Trooper, he has earned three Unit Citation Awards and has served at Troop A in Southbury and Troop L in Litchfield. Sgt. Ferrucci holds an associate’s  degree in criminal justice and is a licensed paramedic. He currently serves as president of the CT Chapter of the High Tech Crime Investigation Association. He lives in Middlebury with his family.

Sergeant Chad Gomez  Sgt. Gomez was promoted from Detective and most recently was on the Statewide Narcotics Task Force. His new assignment will be in the Emergency Services Unit. As a Trooper for nine years, Sgt. Gomez has earned a Medal for Outstanding Service, a Unit Citation Award, the Connecticut Wartime Service Medal, the 2008 Samuel J. Luciano Award for Outstanding Achievement, the TFC Allan. J Tuskowski Award of Excellence in Training and the 2009 Mothers Against Drunk Driving Award. He has served the agency as a Canine Handler and as a member of the Emergency Services Unit Search & Rescue Team and Tactical Team. Sgt. Gomez is a veteran, having served as a U.S. Army Airborne Ranger; he is also a former Torrington Police Officer. He lives in Terryville with his wife.

Sergeant Albert Gosselin Sgt. Gosselin was promoted from Trooper First Class and will be assigned to Troop E in Montville.  Sgt. Gosselin most recently served at Troop D in Danielson and previously served at Troop E in Montville and Troop F in Westbrook, as well as in the Brooklyn Resident Trooper’s Office. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Norwich University and resides in Lisbon with his family.

Sergeant John Gregorzek Sgt. Gregorzek was promoted from Trooper First Class and will leave his position with the Counter Terrorism Unit to go to Troop D in Danielson.  Sgt. Gregorzek has also served in the Casino Unit and at Troop D in Danielson during his eight-year career with the CT State Police. He holds a master’s degree in criminal justice and served in the U.S. Air Force. He lives in Woodstock with his family.

Sergeant Nicholas Griffin Sgt. Griffin was promoted from Trooper First Class at Troop L. He will now be assigned to Troop A in Southbury. Sgt. Griffin has been a Trooper for 15 ½ years and earned a bachelor’s degree from Central CT State University. He lives in Bristol with his family.

Sergeant Justin C. Lanati  Sgt. Lanati was promoted from Trooper First Class and will take on a new assignment at Troop E in Montville.  He has served at Troop C in Tolland, Troop H in Hartford and, most recently, at Troop F in Westbrook. A Trooper for 17 years, he has earned the agency’s Medal for Meritorious Service. Sgt. Lanati earned an associate’s degree from Asnuntuck Community College and served as a Master Sergeant/First Sergeant in the CT Air National Guard. He lives in Salem with his family.

Sergeant Andrea O’Donnell  Sgt. O’Donnell was promoted from Trooper First Class and will now serve at Troop H in Hartford . She most recently served in the Governor’s Security Unit and previously served at Troop C in Tolland, in the Mansfield Resident Trooper’s Office and as a Canine Handler. Sgt. O’Donnell has been a Trooper for more than 15 years and lives in Enfield with her family.

Sergeant Robert Scavello Sgt. Scavello was promoted from Trooper First Class and has been assigned to Troop K in Colchester. A Trooper for 12 years, he most recently served at Troop E in Montville and previously served at Troop D in Danielson and as Sterling Resident Trooper. Sgt. Scavello has earned a Unit Citation Award and is a certified DARE instructor. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island and lives in Stonington with his family.

Sergeant Erik C. Trotter  Sgt. Trotter was promoted from Trooper First Class and was most recently a Brooklyn Resident Trooper. His new assignment will be at Troop E in Montville. As a Trooper for more than 15 years, Sgt. Trotter has earned the Wartime Veteran Service Medal and six awards from Mothers Against Drunk Driving. He previously served as an Emergency Medical Technician and as a police officer in Plainfield; he is also a veteran of the U.S. Army Military Police Corps. He holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice and lives in Griswold with his family.

Sergeant Joshua Woodward  Sgt. Woodward was promoted from Trooper First Class and most recently served in the Mansfield Resident Trooper’s Office. He has now been assigned to Troop E in Montville. During his 11 years as a Trooper, he has earned a Medal for Lifesaving, a Unit Citation Award and two awards from Mothers Against Drunk Driving. He is trained as a DARE officer and a Field Training Officer. He lives in Chaplin with his family.
