State Police Detectives Make Arrest in Prospect Arson
On September 15, 2016 at approximately 5:00 a.m., Troop I - Bethany responded to 14 Waterbury Rd. for a commercial structure fire.

Prospect, Bethany and Waterbury Fire Departments responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. Damaged in the fire were two businesses, Golden Wok Chinese Restaurant and Masonry Inc. and Chimney.
The Prospect Fire Marshal's Office requested the assistance of detectives from the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit (FEIU). Detectives from FEIU and Central District Major Crime (CDMC) responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation.
Through the course of the investigation detectives determined the fire was intentionally set.
After an extensive investigation and a combined effort between State Police FEIU, CDMC and Naugatuck Police Department, detectives identified a suspect. Detecives applied for, and were granted, an arrest warrant by the superior court for suspect Matthew Garguilo.

As detectives conducted this investigation information regarding a second incident at a Naugatuck residence was brought to their attention. A criminal mischief incident was reported that was determined to be linked to the Prospect arson. Detectives applied for and were granted a second arrest warrant for Garguilo.
On July 7, 2016 CDMC detectives served the two active arrest warrants on Matthew Garguilo, who is currently incarcerated at with the CT Department of Corrections on an unrelated matter.
There are two pending arrests for another person who is currently incarcerated in New Jersey.

Conspiracy to Commit Burglary 3rd
Conspiracy to Commit Possession of Burglar's Tools
Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Mischief 1st (2 counts)
