Today, 01/25/11, shortly after 11:40 a.m. State Police Troop C received a bank alarm reporting an armed robbery had just taken place at the Savings Institute Bank located in the Eastbrook Mall in Mansfield, Ct.
Troopers responded to the scene and secured the perimeter. State Police K-9 teams and additional manpower conducted a search of the area for the suspect.
Preliminary State Police investigation has revealed the suspect entered the bank, approached a teller, and implied he was in possession of a weapon and demanded money. The suspect fled from the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect fled on foot into the mall out the back.
The suspect is described a white male, mid 50’s with a mustache, glasses, and graying hair. He was wearing a varsity style black jacket with black leather sleeves and a black baseball cap with red and white letters on it. No weapon was displayed and there were no injuries. All area police agencies were advised of this robbery and given a suspect description.
State Police Eastern District Major Crime Detectives responded to conduct the investigation into this robbery. Detectives located witnesses and conducted interviews. In addition Troopers also located and seized both physical and forensic evidence at the scene.
State Police are asking anyone who may recognize the suspect from the attached surveillance photos or anyone who may have seen anything suspicious before or immediately after the robbery are asked to call State Police at 860 896-3200 all calls will be kept confidential.
