Death Benefit Approved For Widow of State Trooper Kenneth Hall

HARTFORD -- Attorney General George Jepsen, at the request of Public Safety Commissioner James M. Thomas, has approved a death benefit for the widow of Trooper First Class Kenneth R. Hall of Hartford, who was killed in the line of duty on Sept. 2.

Hall, 57, a U.S. Marine Corp. and Vietnam veteran, was a member of Connecticut State Police for 22 years. Hall died when his cruiser was struck by a pickup truck on Interstate 91 after he had pulled to the shoulder of the highway after making a traffic stop.

Hall is survived by his wife, Sheila, and seven adult children.

Under Connecticut law, Mrs. Hall is eligible for a death benefit of $50,000, payable in monthly installments over 10 years. To be issued, the benefit needed approval by the appointing authority, the Commissioner of Public Safety, and the Attorney General.

“Trooper First Class Hall died while doing his job protecting the people of Connecticut. Connecticut can best honor his memory by helping to protect his family,” Jepsen said. “It is my honor to approve this request.”

Commissioner of Public Safety James Thomas said “Trooper Ken Hall served the Connecticut State Police and the people of Connecticut with pride and distinction.  This benefit is a small consolation for Mrs. Hall and I am pleased that it will be provided to her by the State of Connecticut”
