June 9, 2011 |
A representative was on hand at 11 State Police barracks to accept wheelchairs on behalf of Chariot of Hope, a Connecticut based, nonprofit organization that collects used wheelchairs, refurbishes them and re-distributes them to people around the world. There are nearly 18 million children and adults around the world who could make use of the wheelchairs that may sit idle in people’s attics and basements.
The weekend’s major collection effort was the 12th annual collection and Trooper accepted a total of 68 wheelchairs from citizens from around the state
“The Connecticut State Police is proud to partner with Chariots of Hope to help bring wheelchairs to those who need them. We thank all who donated these chairs, which end up truly bringing hope to men, women and children around the world,” said Colonel Danny R. Stebbins, Commanding Officer of the Connecticut State Police.
For additional information on donating a wheelchair, call (860) 249-HOPE or visit the Chariot’s Website at www.chariotsofhope.org
