                                       TROOPERS, OFFICERS SEIZE WEAPONS

   On January 5, 2010, the Statewide Narcotic Task Force-East Field Office and the New London Police Department conducted a joint investigation which lead to the execution of a narcotics-related search warrant at 48 Crystal Avenue, Apt. A23, in New London.  This location is a federally-funded housing complex.

   The investigation revealed that the accused was storing quantities of illicit narcotics within the residence and conducting ongoing narcotic transactions from this residence.  Seized was: an amount of marijuana, items of drug paraphernalia & three loaded 9mm handguns (Berretta Elite2, Taurus PT92, Walther PPK).

   The SNTF & New London Police Department has employed the assistance of the Connecticut State Police Firearms Unit and Forensic Laboratory to determine the origin and history of the seized handguns.  The investigation continues.

ACCUSED:   Shani THOMAS (DOB 12/17/1984)

                   48 Crystal Ave., Apt. A23

                   New London, CT

TOTAL BOND:  $250,000.00 Cash/Surety

COURT DATE: January 5, 2010 at New London Superior Court

CHARGES:   Poss. Marijuana

                    Poss. of Marijuana WITS w/in 1500’ Housing

                    Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Criminal Poss. of Firearms by Convicted Felon (3 counts)

Altering Serial Number on Firearm
