STATE POLICE WARN ABOUT GRAPHIC SPAM E-MAIL;  INVESTIGATION INITIATED

State Police at Troop E in Montville and the State Police Computer Crimes Unit are currently investigating a graphic e-mail sent to numerous e-mail accounts throughout southeastern Connecticut.  The public is asked to delete any e-mail with the subject of:  “We are the world, we are the children……..enjoy.”

This e-mail contains graphic material and is believed to be a pyramid e-mail which may contain a virus and has the potential to affect the receiver's address book and further spread the virus.

The State Police investigation so far has found that a virus originating from South America utilized an e-mail account of an innocent Norwich man and sent out graphic e-mails to his contact list.

All recipients who received the e-mail have been sent an warning e-mail from Troop E in Montville with the title:  STATE POLICE ***WARNING****  advising all recipients to not open the e-mail and immediately delete it.
