SIX PROMOTED DURING CONNECTICUT STATE POLICE CEREMONY
The Connecticut State Police promoted six State Troopers during a ceremony held at the Connecticut State Police Training Academy on Thursday, June 17, 2010.
Department of Public Safety Commissioner James M. Thomas and Colonel Thomas Davoren, Commanding Officer of the State Police, formally promoted three Troopers to the rank of Major, two to the rank Captain and one to the rank of Sergeant during the ceremony.
The following persons were promoted:
Major Frank Griffin
Major Griffin was promoted from Captain and has been assigned to serve as Commanding Officer of the Eastern District Headquarters. He has been with the Connecticut State Police for 37 years. He has won numerous department awards including a Meritorious Service Award, two Outstanding Service Awards and four Unit Citation Awards. He previously served as Commanding Officer of Troop D in Danielson, as Field Commander of the Statewide Narcotics Task Force, and as the Commanding Officer of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, as well as several other positions during his years as a Trooper. An Army veteran, Major Griffin lives in Putnam with his family.
Major Michael Guillot
Major Guillot was promoted from Captain and has been assigned to serve as Commanding Officer of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations. Major Guillot has been a Trooper for more than 26 years and has served in a variety of positions. Major Guillot holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Connecticut. He lives in Thompson with his family.
Major Brian Meraviglia
Major Meraviglia was promoted from Captain and has been assigned to serve as Commanding Officer of the Central District Headquarters. He has been a Trooper for 24 years and has earned two Meritorious Service Awards and five Unit Citation Awards.
Major Meraviglia holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Connecticut, where he also completed the Public Safety Management Certificate Program. In addition, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Virginia. He lives in Stratford with his wife and two children.
Captain George Battle
Captain Battle was promoted from Lieutenant and will serve as Deputy Commanding Officer of the Western District Headquarters. As a Trooper for more than 22 years, Captain Battle has earned two Unit Citation Awards. At various times during his career with the State Police, he has served as Commanding Officer of Troops A, I and W and as Chief of Staff of the Office of Administrative Services, as well as other positions. Captain Battle earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement from Western New England College and is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Quinnipiac University. He resides in Cheshire with his family.
Captain Alaric J. Fox
Captain Fox was promoted from Lieutenant and has been assigned as Commanding Officer of the Selections, Training and Investigative Support Section.
A Trooper for 16 years, Captain Fox most recently served as Commandant of the Connecticut State Police Training Academy. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of New Haven and a Juris Doctorate from Western New England College School of Law. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Virginia. Captain Fox previously served as a Willimantic Police Officer and as an FBI Agent. He lives in Willington with his wife and two children.
Sergeant John Scannell
Sgt. Scannell was promoted from Trooper First Class and has been assigned to Troop D in Danielson. A Trooper for nine years, Sgt. Scannell has earned awards for Meritorious and Lifesaving Service and three Unit Citations. He has served as a Trooper at Troop D and at Troop C in Tolland and most recently served as Resident State Trooper in Stafford. Sgt. Scannell earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Worcestor State College and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA. He lives in Tolland with his family.
