The Connecticut State Police are participating in the "Click it or ticket" campaign in Connecticut.  The enforcement campaign will begin on May 24th and run through the summer.    

During this period of time State Troopers will be conducting highway spot-checks, looking for those operators and passengers who are not wearing seatbelts.  This SAFETY campaign is designed to remind all motorists to properly protect their loved ones and themselves by using the cars safety restraints.

Connecticut law requires all front seat passengers to buckle up.  The law also requires children to be seatbelted or in an approved child safety seat.  Children must always be seated and restrained in the back seat of the car.

Connecticut State Troopers are on the lookout for unbelted violators.  Troopers on patrol will be watching.  Additionally, troopers will be stationed on exit and entrance ramps to the highways and will concentrate their efforts to increase seatbelt compliance.

State Troopers are trying to reach out to all motorists and all passengers to remind everyone to buckle up.  This is a safety issue for all motorists.  The average seatbelt use in Connecticut is 86%, our State can do better.  Connecticut can, and should surpass the national average with the voluntary cooperation of all motorists.  Remember, before you start your car BUCKLE UP, IT'S THE LAW.

No one wants to face the Memorial Day Holiday, or any day , with the loss of a loved one.  State Troopers are anticipating that increased seatbelt use awareness and enforcement will help to reduce injury in accidents and also save lives.  Motorists are reminded that courteous driving and making sure the driver is well rested can help in achieving increased highway safety.

The fine for the violation of not buckling up is now $92.00.  A driver can also be fined $92.00 if a child is not in the proper safety seat, infant seat, or child safety seat.

Seatbelts prevent injury and save lives.  Many people are ejected from cars involved in violent crashes on our highways and roads in Connecticut.  Many of these people sustain serious injury and many times die from these injuries, which the use of seatbelts can prevent.
