CONNECTICUT STATE TROOPERS, WINCHESTER POLICE,
U.S. MARSHALS ARREST FUGITIVE FROM FLORIDA

   On March 25, 2010 two Florida Troopers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop and the suspect opened fire shooting the Florida Troopers and engaged the Troopers in a chase that resulted in a traffic crash.  The male suspect later identified by Florida authorities as BRODY JAMES WHITAKER fled on foot.  The suspect was able to elude capture in Florida. 

   The U.S. Marshal Service developed information that determined that the suspect could be in Winsted Connecticut.  The Winchester Police Chief was contacted and provided with the information.  

   Winchester Chief Nick Guerriero requested that the Connecticut State Police provide additional resources to conduct this investigation and locate this fugitive. Connecticut State Police deployed two Tactical Teams, several K-9 teams, CSP Helicopter, aircraft and manpower to work with Winchester Police, Environmental Police, and the US Marshal Service to attempt to locate and capture the accused, Brody James Whitaker.  BRODY JAMES WHITAKER was described as a 37 year old white male, approx. 5’8” and 150 pounds, he has blue eyes and reddish-blond hair.  Whitaker was also described as being armed and dangerous.

   Chief Guerriero established a command post where all Law Enforcement planned a detailed containment and execution of a plan to apprehend the suspect keeping citizens of the community out of harms way. 

   Police determined a location, 339 Roosevelt Drive in Winsted, as the location of the suspect wanted by Florida authorities.  Local State and Federal Law Enforcement established a perimeter to contain the suspect in the private home located at 339 Roosevelt Drive, Winsted. State Police Tactical Teams were assigned to establish a perimeter around the residence.

   On 04/06/10 At approximately 10:30 p.m. Troopers, Environmental Police, and Winchester Police located and took into custody two females who were with WHITAKER in Winsted. They were taken into custody without incident at gunpoint and transported to Troop L Litchfield where they were processed and held on bond.

   On 04/07/10, at approximately 5:45 a.m., the suspect attempted to flee from the private residence on Roosevelt Drive by jumping from a window.  The containment perimeter was effective and he was  immediately apprehended.  He was transported to State Police Troop L to be processed and arraigned.

   At approximately 6:00 a.m., Connecticut Troopers and Winchester Officers entered the residence and took two male subjects into custody without incident.

   All five arrested were held on bond to appear in GA #18 Superior Court to answer the charges.

   No additional arrests are anticipated. Troopers and Winchester Officer will process the residence to gather evidence and determine if additional charges are to be filed.
