UPDATE: STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE WESTBROOK SHOOTING
On 10/17/09 at approximately 6:45 p.m., Connecticut State Police Troop-F Westbrook received an emergency 911 call from the Subway Restaurant located on Rt. 1 in Westbrook. The caller reported that a wounded male had entered the restaurant seeking help. EMS and State Police Troopers responded and located a male subject suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The male was treated at the scene and transported to Yale New Haven Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He is reported to be in stable condition suffering from gunshot wounds.
Soon thereafter a second 911 call from a female victim who reported that her current boyfriend had been shot while in a car in Westbrook by her ex-boyfriend and that she had been taken from the car by her ex-boyfriend but was able to escape in Essex. Troopers responded and located this female victim who was not injured. Troopers secured all three crime scenes and witnesses were identified.
State Police Major Crime Detectives responded to conduct the criminal investigation into this shooting.
Major Crime Detectives collected and secured all forensic and physical evidence at all three crime scene sites. A police search for the male suspect is underway. The suspect family members and all surrounding police agencies have been advised of the search for the suspect.
At approximately 9:00 a.m. a State Trooper located the suspect in a motor vehicle on Rt. 154 in Essex, CT. As the State Trooper got out of his cruiser to approach the suspect he the suspect grabbed a weapon that he had in the car and shot himself. The male subject was pronounced dead. There was no other injury during this incident. State Police Major Crime Detectives responded to also process this scene. A post mortem examination will be conducted by the Office of the Chief States Medical Examiner to determine the manner and cause of his death. The identity of the deceased will be withheld at this time to allow notification of next of kin.
UPDATE: Today a post mortem examination of the deceased was conducted by the Office of The Chief States Medical Examiner the cause of death was determined to be caused by a single gunshot wound to the head. The deceased is identified as ROBERT FINKELDEY dob:02/15/85 of 5 Custom Drive Old Saybrook, Ct. The death has been ruled a suicide.
No arrests are anticipated in this case the investigation is continuing.
