FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 4, 2009 |
East Lyme — State and local police are warning residents about a rash of burglaries in town within the last month.
Resident Trooper Sgt. Wilfred J. Blanchette said there have been eight residential burglaries in the past month. The victims' homes are located north of Interstate 95. Sgt Blanchette believes the latest burglaries are linked to a crop of burglaries that happened last year.
The house burglaries are believed to be occurring in the daytime or early evening hours at unoccupied homes. The thieves have primarily taken cash and jewelry.
The Resident State Trooper’s Office is actively working on several leads that have been developed in these cases.
East Lyme residents are reminded to lock doors and windows, leave their lights on and always set the burglar alarms when they are not at home.
If residents observe a suspicious person or vehicle in their neighborhood, they should obtain as much descriptive information as possible - a vehicle color or registration number - and contact the police immediately. Timely reporting of this information is critical.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the East Lyme Resident Troopers Office at 860- 739-5900 or State Police Troop E at 860-848-1201. All calls will be kept confidential.
The community will be kept informed of the progress of this investigation updated through the police’s Web site at www.eltownhall.com/police.
