On 01/23/2009, at approximately 1045 hours, State Police Troop D received a bank robbery alarm from the Savings Institute located at 180 Westminster Road Canterbury, CT. Troopers from Troop D and State Police Eastern District Major Crime Detectives responded to the scene. The scene was secured and the area searched for suspects. Troopers learned that two masked suspects entered the bank. One subject was armed with a crow bar, and the other a pistol. The suspects demanded money from the tellers while smashing the crow bar against the counter of the bank. The suspects got an undisclosed amount of money from the tellers.
The suspects fled on foot in a northerly direction from the bank, crossing Rt.14 into a wooded area. Troopers conducted a search utilizing State Police K-9 to track from the scene that led to snowmobile tracks in a field. The snowmobile tracks were followed to a residence on Westminster Road, where two snowmobiles were located behind the house. Troopers searched the residence for suspects but none were located.
