STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE NEW FAIRFIELD

ARMED BANK ROBBERY

Today 09/02/08 at 10:07 a.m. Connecticut State Police received a 911 telephone call reporting that a bank robbery had just occurred at the Savings Bank of Danbury Rt. 37 in New Fairfield.

New Fairfield Resident State Trooper and State Troopers from Troop-A responded to the robbery scene.  The area was secured by the responding Troopers. An immediate search of the area was undertaken by State Police K-9 teams and State Police personnel.  State Police Aircraft were dispatched to the area to conduct an aerial search of the area.  All area police departments were advised of this incident.

Initial State Police Investigation determined that at about 10:00 a.m. the bank employees were confronted by a lone white male who entered the bank and brandished a handgun. The suspect threatened the employees and then ordered them all into the bank’s vault. The suspect then took money from the bank and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.  There were no reports of any injury.

The suspect was described to State Police as a white male about 6’ tall, blond hair, and he had a birthmark on the left side of his neck. He also appeared to be wearing a fake mustache. The suspect was wearing jeans, blue shirt, and a yellow reflector type vest and fled the scene in an unknown direction. 

The State Police Western District Major Crime Squad Detectives responded to the bank robbery scene to conduct the criminal investigation into this armed robbery. The detectives will work with the New Fairfield Resident State trooper’s Office and State Police Troop-A Troopers in this investigation.

State Police are asking anyone who may have seen anything unusual around the bank just before 10:00 a.m. or shortly after 10:00 a.m. to please call State Police at 203-267-2200 or TEXT an anonymous message to State Police  use  TEXT-A-TIP .    Text TIP711 plus your message to CRIMES ( 274637)
