                                   SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY

                                       Quarterly Press Release

In June of 2008 the number of registered sex offenders in the state has exceeded 5000 registrants for the first time since the registry was established in October of 1998. In the month of June there were 36 new registered sex offenders that were added to the publicly accessible registry bringing the total number of registrants living, working or attending educational institutions in the state to 5027.

During the first six months of 2008 the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry website had an average of just over 900 thousand hits per month recorded on the website for registered sex offenders living, working, or attending schools in the state. Information can be searched on the website by last name, town, zip code, or by viewing an entire list of registrants. The information is provided free of charge and persons making inquiries do not have to identify themselves.

The public is encouraged to contact the State Police Sex Offender Registry Unit if they have any information that differs from the information posted on the registry. Any questions regarding the registration of sex offenders in Connecticut or information on a registered sex offender that appears to be in violation should be directed to the Connecticut State Police, Sex Offender Registry Unit at 1111 Country Club Road, Middletown, CT 06457-9294, by phone at 860-685-8060 or by email at sex.offender.registry@po.state.ct.us. Registry records are also available at local police departments for registrants living within that department's jurisdiction.
