STATE POLICE INVESTIGATION SOLVES ARMED ROBBERY
AT CUMBERLAND FARMS STORE THOMPSON, CTON JULY 11, 2007
On July 11, 2007 a Connecticut State Police bulletin was sent to all area Police Agencies to be on the lookout for a suspect vehicle seen by store clerks fleeing from the armed robbery at the Cumberland Farms Store in North Grosvenordale, CT. Minutes later, the Webster, Mass. Police Department located the suspect vehicle on Pleasant Street in Webster. Connecticut State Police Detectives went to Webster to conduct follow up investigation and seize the vehicle used in the robbery. As a result, CSP Detectives along with Webster Police located a subject hiding at 3 East Main Street Webster, MA. This subject, giving the name of Richard LaChappelle, fit the description of the armed robbery suspect from the Cumberland Farms Store. This subject (LaChappelle) was subsequently positively identified as the subject who committed the Cumberland Farms armed robbery earlier in the night.
On July 13, 2007, Connecticut State Police Detectives obtained a warrant for LaChappelle for the Cumberland Farms Store robbery. Extradition was authorized to return LaChappelle from Massachusetts.
On July 13, 2007 Connecticut State Police Detectives and Webster Police located another suspect named Brad MacRonald DOB: 07/05/1983 at 40 Lake Street Webster, MA. MacRonald was arrested on outstanding Massachusetts warrants unrelated to this case. He was transported to Webster Police Headquarters and questioned regarding his involvement in the Cumberland Farms Robbery in North Grosvenordale, CT. As a result, on July 13, 2007, Connecticut State Police Detectives obtained an arrest warrant with extradition authorized to arrest MacRonald regarding his involvement in the Cumberland Farms Store robbery on July 11, 2007.
On July 13, 2007 Webster Police Detectives received information regarding the possible location of robbery suspect Richard LaChappelle. Detectives from the Connecticut State Police, Webster Police and Dudley, Ma. Police went to 76 Scholfield Ave, Dudley, MA. located LaChappelle and he was taken into custody without incident at that location. He was transported to Webster Police Headquarters where he was charged as a Fugitive from Justice based on the outstanding Connecticut State Police warrant. While at Police Headquarters, it was determined that LaChappelle’s true identify is Dominic P. Perretti, DOB: 07/28/1957, of 7 Williams Rd, Apt. #1, Grafton, MA.
Webster Police Department also charged Brad MacRonald, DOB: 07/05/1983, of 40 Lake Street, Webster, Ma. as a Fugitive from Justice based on the Connecticut Warrant.
As a result of this investigation, Massachusetts Police officials are charging Perretti and MacRonald for their participation in three other armed robberies in Massachusetts, close to the Connecticut border.
Several police agencies were involved and instrumental in identifying these suspects and solving this crime were: Connecticut State Police Troop D; Eastern District Major Crime Squad Detectives; Thompson Resident State Trooper TFC. John Aiello; Webster, Ma. Police Department; Dudley, Ma. Police Department; and clerks at the Cumberland Farms Convenience Store.
