PROMOTE TWO PERSONNEL TO RANK OF MAJOR

The Connecticut State Police today promoted two members of the Connecticut State Police to the rank of Major during a ceremony at State Police Headquarters in Middletown.

Commissioner John A. Danaher III and Colonel Thomas Davoren formally promoted Captain Gene Labonte and Lieutenant Warran Hyatt to the rank of State Police Major. These promotions will fill and restructure the executive command staff of the Connecticut State Police.

Major Gene Labonte  Major Labonte is a 17-year veteran of the Connecticut State Police.  He began his career as a patrol trooper at Troop F in Westbrook and was assigned as a Resident Trooper for the Town of Westbrook. In 1996, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  He was a patrol sergeant and Resident Trooper Sergeant at Troop E in Montville.  In 1999, he was assigned as an investigator within the Internal Affairs Unit.  Upon leaving IA, he was assigned as both a field office supervisor and executive officer with the Connecticut Regional Auto Theft Task Force.  In 2001, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as an Area Commander with the Statewide Narcotics Task Force.  The following year, he was assigned as Commanding Officer of the Eastern District Major Crime Squad.  He has been a barracks commander at Troop K in Colchester and Troop E in Montville. Labonte was then promoted to Captain and most recently served as Commanding Officer of the Selection and Investigative Support Section.  Major Labonte has earned two Lifesaving Awards and three Unit Citation Awards from the agency.

Major Labonte has a Bachelor of Science degree and is currently completing a Masters degree.  He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.  He resides in Deep River with his wife and two children.

Major Labonte has been assigned as the Commanding Officer of the Bureau of Training and Support Service.

Major Warran Hyatt   Major Hyatt is a 19-year veteran of the Connecticut State Police. His first assignment was as a patrol Trooper at Troop G in Bridgeport. Later he was assigned to Troop I and then served as a detective for the Major Crimes unit in 1994. In August of 1996, he was promoted to Sergeant; he has served as a sergeant in Major Crimes and as a Patrol Sergeant at Troop G.  In 2002, Hyatt was promoted to the rank of lieutenant.  He has served as the State Police Commanding officer of Central District Major Crime, Troop A in Southbury, Homeland Security, and the Western District Major Crime Squad and the Motor Vehicle Fraud Task Force.  During his career, Major Hyatt has earned an a Meritorious Service Award, an Outstanding Award for police service and multiple Unit Citations.

Major Hyatt is a graduate of the University of Connecticut Executive Education Program and of the FBI National Academy.  He resides in Milford with his wife and two children.

Major Hyatt has been assigned as Commanding of the State Police Western District Operations.
