The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection will continue a series of public meetings about hate crimes in Connecticut with a program from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Norwich at 300 Main St. in the former Chelsea Groton Bank building.
In recent years, the number of reported hate crimes has been rising in Connecticut and across the nation. DESPP launched its Hate Crimes Initiative earlier this year.
"The Hate Crimes Unit of the Connecticut State Police will be presenting about what hate crimes are, the importance of reporting hate incidents and what to do if you have been a victim or a witness to a hate incident. In addition, they will present the latest hate crime statistics for the state of Connecticut and answer any questions the community may have," said Michael Bloom, Hate Crimes Initiative Coordinator for DESPP.
WHO: Commissioner Ronnell A. Higgins, members of the Connecticut State Police Hate Crimes Investigative Unit, Norwich Mayor Peter Nystrom, Norwich Chief of Police Patrick Daley, and a representative from the Office of the State’s Attorney.
