POWERFUL WINTER STORM WILL DEPART OUR AREA TODAY…HIGH WIND WARNINGS HAVE ENDED…WIND ADVISORIES REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE STATE… SEVERAL FLOOD WARNINGS REMAIN IN EFFECT…MODERATE TO MAJOR FLOODING IS FORECAST ON SOME RIVERS…

The heavy rainfall and strong winds have moved to the east.  Winds are currently gusting from the southwest at 20 – 30 MPH at times across the state.  Winds gusted as high as 60 MPH overnight and 2” – 4”  of rain fell across the state.  Power outages are now falling and as of 6:45 AM Eversource and UI were reporting a total of 2,646 customers without power across the state.  Flood Warnings remain in effect for multiple areas for urban and small stream flooding.  Flood Warnings also remain in effect for several rivers including the Still River in Danbury where major flooding is forecast to occur today.  

Tides are currently running approximately 2 feet above normal and minor to moderate coastal flooding is occurring now along the coast in Southeastern Connecticut.  Additional minor coastal flooding is forecast to occur during high tide in western Long Island Sound between 8:00 – 10:00 AM. 

Wind Advisories will remain in effect until this evening for the entire state.  Westerly winds are forecast to gust to 30 – 50 MPH this afternoon which may cause some additional power outages. 

DESPP / DEMHS will continue to closely flooding on the state’s rivers and any additional power outages today.
