CONNECTICUT IS IN THE THIRD DAY OF A 3-DAY HEAT WAVE ACROSS THE STATE…HIGH HUMIDITY AND SOME SMOKE FROM THE CANADIAN WILDFIRES CONTINUE MAKING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES UNCOMFORTABLE...THE HOT WEATHER PROTOCOL REMAINS IN EFFECT…

At 11:00 AM temperatures across the state ranged from the mid 70’s to the low 80’s.  Skies clearing from some morning clouds and fog and a little haze from the Canadian wildfires is also present.

High temperatures are forecast to reach 90 F this afternoon with the heat index in the mid 90’s under partly sunny skies.  Persons in vulnerable populations such as the elderly or persons with breathing concerns should take extra care when working outside this afternoon.

A hot weather protocol remains in effect until 8:00 pm this evening. Towns are encouraged to monitor vulnerable populations
and consider opening cooling centers if needed.

The heat is expected to subside over the weekend.  However, several computer models are indicating that some heavy rain may occur Sunday afternoon thru daybreak on Monday.  A total of 2” – 4” may fall during this period causing some urban and small stream flooding.

The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will continue to monitor weather conditions however this will be the final update on the heat wave.
