At 5:45 am temperatures across the state ranged from the upper 20’s in northern CT to near 32 F at the coast. Radar currently shows bands of light to occasionally moderate snow falling across the state. Connecticut DOT camera’s currently show that most highways have some snow cover on the shoulders and ramps. Secondary roads are snow covered in many towns. Total snowfall overnight generally ranged from 4” – 6” across the state. Winds are currently blowing from the northeast at 10 – 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph at times along the coast. UI and Eversource are only showing a total of 13 customers without power across the state. Here’s the latest forecast for the rest of today:
This Morning: Light to occasionally moderate snow is forecast to continue this morning. The falling snow combined with any snow that remains on roadways is expected to cause a moderate impact for the morning rush hour especially in central and northern CT from 6:00 – 9:00 AM. Temperatures are forecast to slowly rise into the low 30’s this morning.
This Afternoon: Light snow is expected to continue for most of the afternoon (mixed with rain at times in southern CT) with around an inch of additional accumulation. Most secondary roads and highways should be plowed and treated by the afternoon rush hour with a minor impact expected. Highs are forecast to reach the mid 30’s.
Tonight: Some black ice is expected to develop as temperatures drop into the mid 20’s across the state. The impact on overnight travel is expected to be minor.
DESPP / DEMHS will continue to monitor this ongoing winter storm.
