The primary threat continues to be minor to moderate urban and small stream flooding. At 12:30 PM radar showed a large cluster of showers and thunderstorms moving from southwest to northeast into central Connecticut. A total of approximately 4” – 9” of rain has fallen across the state in the past 21 hours. The highest amounts have been in the northeast corner of the state with close to 9” in Sterling. The Norwich and New Haven areas have also seen some heavy rainfall with totals around to 7” in many towns.
For the rest of this afternoon a dry slot of air is trying to move into Connecticut from the west. If this dryer air keeps moving to the east, the moderate to heavy rainfall should end from west to east between 2:00 and 5:00 PM. Additional rainfall of 1” – 2” is possible in central and eastern CT before the rain tapers off to showers by late this afternoon.
Some minor small stream flooding remains likely because soils are now saturated and most of the rainfall is running off into brooks and streams.
Towns should report any significant flood damage (e.g. flooded homes or businesses) to their DEMHS Regional Coordinator as time permits.
