FLOOD WARNINGS AND ADVISORIES REMAIN IN EFFECT OR CENTRAL CONNECTICUT…ADDITIONAL CLUSTERS OR BANDS OF HEAVY RAIN ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER THE NEXT 2 – 4 HOURS…

At 2:00 PM radar showed a slow-moving band of moderate to heavy rain rotating around the upper-level remnants of Henri and moving across eastern CT.  A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for southern Hartford and Tolland counties until 3:00 PM.  A Flood Advisory remains in effect for eastern New Haven and western Middlesex counties until 2:45 PM. 

Limited daytime heating is currently enhancing the development of some heavy showers in western CT.  These showers are forecast by the HRRR model to become more widespread over the next few hours (see radar simulation to the far right) and form into short bands that may move across Hartford, New Haven and Middlesex counties. These new bands of rain have the potential to deliver an additional 2” – 3” of rain to a few towns if the bands move repeatedly over the same areas.  As in all dying tropical systems, an isolated weak tornado cannot be ruled out. 

The bands of heavy rain that have occurred over the past several hours have already caused some urban flooding and some rises in small streams and rivers.  Any additional rainfall will quickly cause additional urban and small stream flooding. 

The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection will continue to closely monitor flooding conditions this afternoon.
