At 8:00 AM light to moderate snow was falling across northern CT with a mix of sleet and freezing rain falling across the rest of the state. Warmer air above has overrun the cold air at the surface and changed the snow to a mix of sleet and freezing rain in southern CT. Temperatures are currently in the mid to upper 20’s across the state. Here’s the latest forecast:
Rest of this Morning: The light to moderate snow in northern CT is forecast to changeover to a mix of sleet and freezing rain in the next hour or two. There may still be brief periods of wet snow when the precipitation intensity is heavier. A moderate impact on driving is expected with an inch of snow on many roads. Driving conditions are forecast to slowly improve later this morning as temperatures in the Hartford area rise to near 30 F by noon.
This Afternoon: Sleet, freezing rain and wet snow are forecast to taper off to flurries and drizzle by mid-afternoon. The impact on the afternoon rush hour is expected to be minor. Most roads by 3:00 PM are expected to be wet with just some slush on shoulders and ramps.
This Evening and Tonight: Some patches of black ice may form especially on untreated roads as temperatures fall into the teens overnight.
Total snowfall is now expected to range from 1” – 2” in southern CT up to 2” – 4” in in Northern CT. There may be a little more snow in the NW and NE hills. DESPP/DEMHS will continue to monitor this winter storm. Another update will be sent out at 11:15 AM this morning.
