MAJOR WINTER STORM IS BEGINNING TO WIND DOWN…THE SNOW SHOULD BE ENDING IN WESTERN CT IN THE NEXT 60 MINUTES…LIGHT SNOW CONTINUES IN CENTRAL CONNECTICUT WITH MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW STILL OCCURRING IN PARTS OF EASTERN CONNECTICUT…BLIZZARD AND WINTER STORM WARNINGS REMAIN IN EFFECT…


The heaviest snow is still falling in southeastern CT with snowfall rates up to an inch per hour and visibilities down to ½ mile at times.  Temperatures are currently in the teens across most of the state with north winds gusting to 40 - 50 MPH at times.  Total snowfall currently ranges from 4” – 6” in the NW Hills 6” – 10” across Central CT and 12” – 20” in parts of southern and eastern CT. 


Rest of This Afternoon:
The snow intensity will continue to subside over the next few hours, however light snow is expected to continue in central CT and a few more bands of moderate snow may impact far eastern CT.  Towns can expect a moderate impact on travel in western and central CT and a major impact on travel in eastern CT.  Highs in the teens with north northwest winds gusting to 40 – 50 MPH at times. 


This Evening:
The snow is expected to taper off down to flurries in central CT by 7:00 PM and in eastern CT by 11:00 PM.  Becoming very cold overnight with lows in the single digits, northwest winds gusting to 20 – 30 MPH at times and wind chills between 0 and -10 F. 

Total snowfall is currently forecast to range from 3” – 6” in the NW Hills, 6” – 12” in the Danbury, Waterbury and Hartford areas, 12” – 18” in the New Haven, Middletown and Willimantic areas and 18” – 24” in southeastern CT.
