WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE STATE…LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW FALLING IN WESTERN CT AND ENTERING CENTRAL CT AT THIS TIME…

At 1:00 PM radar and DOT camera’s showed light to moderate snow falling in Western CT.  Temperatures across the state currently range from the upper 20’s to low 30’s.  The following forecast is based on a blend of the GFS, NAM and HRRR models:

This Afternoon: Light to moderate snow will spread across central and eastern CT between now and 4:00 PM.  With high temperatures just near freezing the falling snow should quickly stick to untreated secondary roads.  Treated highways should remain mostly wet.  A thin coating of snow especially on secondary roads is likely to cause a minor impact on the afternoon rush hour.

This Evening and Overnight: The snow is expected to lighten up to lighter snow showers this evening and continue overnight with lows in the upper 20’s. Just a minor impact is expected overnight on most roads.

Wednesday: Light snow in the morning may end for several hours around midday.  The light snow is forecast to return late Wednesday afternoon.  Just a minor impact is expected for both the morning and afternoon rush hours with most roads being just wet.  High temperatures are forecast to reach the mid 30’s.

Wednesday Night Into Thursday Morning: As a larger storm passes well to our south, light snow and snow showers are expected Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.  Low temperatures in the upper 20’s may cause a few patches of black ice to form on some roads.  The light snow should end around daybreak.  Just a minor impact is expected for the Thursday morning rush hour.

Arctic Cold Outbreak Expected This Weekend: Once the final storm passes an arctic air mass will move into our area.  Highs may not get out of the upper teens for most of the state on Friday and Saturday.  Overnight lows are forecast to range from 0 to +10 F above Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights.

Additional updates will be sent out if the forecast changes significantly.

Sincerely,

Doug Glowacki
