March is National Procurement Month! Public procurement is an essential role in government operations, supported by a dedicated, qualified staff to ensure taxpayer dollars are expended responsibly and efficiently.

We are highlighting some of our DAS procurement professionals this month in recognition of National Procurement Month.

1. What do you do?   

I am a Contract Analyst at the DAS Procurement division, Supplier Diversity program.  My role is to assist and spread the word on Small Business opportunities through business outreach events while reviewing applications for the Supplier Diversity and Prequalification program.  I interact with contractors from a multitude of industries and provide resource information that guides on different opportunities available to promote the growth of the economy and expand the opportunities for all individuals.  


2. Why do you work for the State of Connecticut? 
For approximately 10 years, I worked for a Nonprofit and provided contractual opportunities posted through the State of Connecticut.  These opportunities presented employment for disabled individuals.  During this timeframe, I understood there are two sides to getting a result and I wanted to be at the beginning of the line to help facilitate and guide small businesses to flourish and gain opportunities presented.


3. What is your favorite part of your job?

I love being part of where it all begins.  The opportunities presented through the Procurement Division are an outstanding effort that would not be accomplished without unification. I am excited to be part of the team and have the ability to promote growth and interact with small businesses.  This allows me to learn about their stories and provide guidance on the benefits available to accomplish their goal.  


4. How did you get involved in Procurement work at DAS? 

In my previous employment, I worked on managing janitorial and landscaping contracts awarded through DAS.  These contracts were then subcontracted to contractors and provided employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.   Throughout those years of experience, I developed the knowledge of understanding of the need to fulfill those contractual requirements and became eager to be part of promoting and assisting with those obligations.  

5. What would you tell someone who is interested in working in Procurement or for the State of Connecticut?

I would say that you must be committed, be enthusiastic about results, and have a passion for helping others.

6. How do you approach building and maintaining relationships with suppliers and stakeholders

I would approach suppliers and stakeholders at the same level with constant communication and understanding of the products and services in need.  It is a relationship that must remain ongoing due to changes in the economy and supply.  

7. What has been your favorite procurement project so far?

I take all projects/assignments with gratitude.  My main satisfaction originates from working with companies and developing many outreach opportunities to promote outstanding results.

8. Where is your favorite place that you have traveled?   

 I enjoyed my travel to Paradise Island in the Bahamas.  I enjoyed the scenic underwater submarine, jet skiing, and swimming with the dolphins.  It was a beautiful and memorable experience.

9. If you could choose one superpower, what would it be, and why?

I would love to slow down time and aging to spend time traveling and enjoying my loved ones.  

10. Who inspires you and why?

My son inspires me.  His persistence in remaining focused on his career pursuit makes me proud of all my efforts.
