Theodora Makris, Center for NYC Neighborhoods

Theodora Makris is a senior policy and research associate at the Center for NYC Neighborhoods. She convenes the Coalition for Affordable Homes, a group of housing counselors and legal service providers throughout New York City that works to strengthen homeownership affordability and preservation statewide. Theodora has helped develop the Center’s environmental policy as it relates to housing justice, racial equity, and green development. Before joining the organization, she received her Masters in Public Administration at New York University, where she studied tenant protection law and labor rights in the wake of widespread unionization efforts. A lifelong New Yorker, she is proud to serve as project manager for the parametric flood insurance pilot program and hopes its findings build awareness around the need for substantial industry changes that prioritize the specific needs of low-and-moderate-income families in her community.
