Jigar Shah, US Department of Energy
Jigar Shah is the Director, Director, Loan Programs Office (LPO) at the U.S. Department of Energy.
While significant capital is available for decarbonization technologies, these projects can still lack access to adequate debt capital. The LPO fills the debt capital gap for decarbonization technologies in commercial deployment by serving as a bridge to bankability for innovative and high-impact energy technologies.
The LPO provides access to needed loans and loan guarantees when private lenders cannot or will not partner until a given technology has reached full market acceptance.
Before joining the LPO, Jigar Shah was most recently co-founder and President at Generate Capital, that focused on helping entrepreneurs accelerate decarbonization solutions through the use of low-cost infrastructure-as-a-service financing.
Prior to Generate Capital, Shah founded SunEdison, a company that pioneered “pay as you save” solar financing. After SunEdison, Shah served as the founding CEO of the Carbon War Room, a global non-profit founded by Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Unite to help entrepreneurs address climate change.
Originally from Illinois, Shah holds a B.S. from the University of Illinois-UC and an MBA from the University of Maryland College Park.
