Jepp Pond, Hamden
2025 Aquatic Vegetation Survey
Jepp Pond is a private 6-acre waterbody located in Hamden, CT with a maximum depth of about 10 feet. The surrounding land is mostly forested apart from a few residential properties, which maintain a tree buffer between their lawns and the pond. There is a small stream on the southern edge of the pond and a dam on the northern side.
Our 2025 CAES OAIS survey found 10 native aquatic plant species. The most commonly found species were common duckweed (Lemna minor) and watermeal (Wolffia species) both small free-floating species. Large-leaf pondweed (Potamogeton amplifolius), ribbon-leaf pondweed (Potamogeton epihydrus), and western waterweed (Elodea nuttallii) were found in high abundance throughout the lake as well. All five species were found along the shoreline as well as at the southern end of the pond where it was no more than 4 feet deep.
Other plant species found in the lake include coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum), primrose-willow (Ludwigia species), bur-reed (Sparganium species), arrowhead (Sagittaria species), and Berchtold’s pondweed (Potamogeton berchtoldii).
