Attorney General Tong Statement on WinRed
(Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong released the following statement today after the U.S. District Court of Minnesota dismissed WinRed’s lawsuit trying to prevent Connecticut and three other states from investigating WinRed’s business practices.“We initiated our investigation into WinRed to protect consumers, regardless of their political affiliation, from deceptive and unfair marketing practices. My office will always fight to protect consumers and we look forward to our continued work with our sister states defending consumers across the nation from unscrupulous and misleading business practices,” Attorney General Tong said.
Connecticut, Maryland, Minnesota and New York initiated an investigation last year into whether WinRed’s pre-checked recurring donation boxes that reportedly automatically enrolled donors into repeated donations are consistent with state consumer protection laws.
