A federal PHE is a declaration by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that allows states to take special actions. These include expanding health care coverage or adding benefits, like the SNAP emergency payments.
HHS declared a PHE in 2020 to help states deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. During the PHE, Connecticut provided extra SNAP benefits to all eligible households and extended HUSKY health coverage to most HUSKY members.
The federal government announced that the emergency declarations will end on May 11, 2023. Now that the PHE is over, some of the actions taken by states will also end. For example, extra SNAP benefits will end after the final payment in mid-February 2023. Learn more about SNAP emergency allotments here.
Also, HUSKY Health members will need to renew their coverage between March 2023 and March 2024. The Department of Social Services and Access Health CT will send you information about how to complete your renewal when it is time for you to renew.
You will receive a notification by mail if your benefits will be affected.
