Important Reminders for the 2021 Filing Season

Although the due date for filing 2020 personal income tax returns (Forms CT-1040 and CT-1040NR/PY) has been extended to Monday, May 17th, 2021, taxpayers are reminded of the following:

  • For those taxpayers who are required to make estimated tax payments, the first estimated payment for taxable year 2021 (Form CT-1040ES) is due April 15th, 2021. (This due date has not been extended.)
  • Taxpayers are encouraged to file their 2020 income tax returns electronically. Filing electronically is the fastest way to receive your refund, and is safe and secure.
  • The Department recognizes that most taxpayers will file their 2020 personal income tax returns (Forms CT-1040 and CT-1040NR/PY) by April 15th, 2021, as such, the Department is offering extended business hours for phone coverage until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13th through Thursday, April 15th.
  • Taxpayers who are experiencing financial difficulties in paying the amount due are encouraged to contact the Department. The Department is here to help and will work with taxpayers to assist them in understanding their tax liabilities and in making payment arrangements.
