Statewide Narcotics Task Force Arrest New London Man Following Narcotic Investigation


New London, CT. (July 21, 2017): The Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force - East Office and the New London Police Department Vice and Intelligence Section concluded a lengthy investigation into the dealing of heroin and crack throughout New London county.

Over the past four months detectives from the Statewide Narcotics Task Force-East Office, in conjunction with the New London Police Department Vice and Intelligence Section, conducted an investigation into the sale of crack cocaine and heroin.  Through the course of the investigation detectives identified Jonathan “JB” Smith as the suspect. 

As a result of the investigation, members of Statewide Narcotics Task Force East office and the New London Police Vice and Intelligence Section arrested Jonathan “JB” Smith.

Detectives also held an active arrest warrant for Smith for four (4) counts of Possession of Narcotics and four (4) counts of Sale of Narcotics, and a search warrant for his car, a 2007 BMW 535xi. 

Jonathan “JB” Smith (dob 10/01/85) of 33 Ann St., New London, was taken into custody as he was exiting a residence at 18 Amity Street in New London. The residence was subsequently secured, and a search warrant was obtained. 

As a result of the search of the residence, detectives seized over 173 grams of heroin, 6.8 grams of marijuana, three (3) kilo presses - one with heroin in the process of being pressed, scales, packaging, two (2) 9mm handguns with obliterated serial numbers, and $7,629 in cash.  Smith’s BMW was also seized.

In addition, Smith was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school, operating a drug factory, criminal possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number. 

Smith was held at Troop E - Montville on a total of $350,000 in bonds and was scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on July 21, 2017.
