STATE TROOPER INJURED DURING TRAFFIC STOP

State Police are investigating a motor vehicle accident in which a State Trooper was injured on Interstate 95 in Branford.

At 1:13 a.m. on Sunday, September 25, Trooper Kevin Duggan notified the Troop that his 2011 Ford Crown Victoria was hit by a vehicle.

Trooper Duggan had conducted a motor vehicle stop on I-95 Northbound south of exit 53. His vehicle was parked on the right paved shoulder directly behind the vehicle he had pulled over. Trooper Duggan exited his vehicle and, as he was conducting a passenger side approach toward the violator, the Trooper’s vehicle was struck in the rear by a third vehicle. The impact forced the violating vehicle forward, striking Trooper Duggan and striking the rear of his cruiser.

Both vehicle operators and Trooper Duggan were transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital for complaint of pain. With the assistance of Branford Police, the right and center lanes were closed during the investigation. All three vehicles were towed from the scene due to the extensive damage. Trooper Duggan was treated and released from the hospital

All three vehicles sustained heavy damange.  This case remains under investigation.
