                                STATE POLICE CONDUCT

                                        DUI Sobriety Checkpoints

Distracted driving, speed, intoxication and the lack of seatbelt use needlessly claim the lives of motorists in Connecticut every year.  The potential for tragedy can be greatly increased when large numbers of people gather for events that historically include the consumption of alcohol.

In an effort to prevent DUI related accidents, injuries and deaths, the Connecticut State Police, working with the UCONN Police, will be conducting multiple DUI Sobriety Checkpoints in the Town of Mansfield, Connecticut. The sites will be located on Rt. 195 and Rt. 44, Rt. 195 and Rt. 275 and Rt. 44 and Birch Rd.  The spot checks will be held on the following dates:

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Friday, April 15, 2011

Saturday, April 16, 2011

Troopers assisted by UCONN Officers will stop motorists briefly to conduct a roadside interview at each sobriety checkpoint. Any operator or vehicle that requires additional investigation will be moved from the travel portion of the road for that purpose.

By detecting and arresting drunk drivers and deterring those who would otherwise drive under the influence of intoxicating substances, Troopers and Officers can enhance the safety of roads in and around the Uconn campus.

Motorists are reminded that drinking and driving is against the law and a danger to all.  If you drink then DON’T DRIVE!!!!
