State Police Make Arrest In Bank Robbery

On Thursday April 28, 2011 at 9:25 a.m., State Police Troop-A received a bank alarm reporting a bank robbery had just taken place at the Webster Bank located at 3 Route 39 in Sherman, CT.  The Sherman Resident Trooper and State Troopers responded to the scene.  The area surrounding the bank was secured and searched by Troopers, and all surrounding police agencies were advised of the robbery and given a description of the suspect and the suspect vehicle.

Several witnesses were interviewed and information was determined that the suspect was a white male, wearing sunglasses, a hooded sweat shirt and baseball cap.  The suspect presented a note to the teller demanding money and implied he possessed a gun.

The male suspect fled the scene with an undetermined amount of cash in a late model gray or silver Toyota-type vehicle. There were no injuries reported.

The State Police Western District Major Crime Squad responded to investigate the robbery. State Police Detectives processed the bank, located several witnesses and conducted interviews.

At approximately 2:00 p.m. Detectives developed information that the suspect and vehicle matching the description may have been at the La Quinta Inn located in Danbury, CT. State Police Detectives were attempting to set up surveillance on the La Quinta Inn, with marked cruisers nearby, when the suspect attempted to flee the La Quinta Hotel parking lot. State Police Detectives and uniformed Troopers pursued the suspect vehicle onto Route 7 N/B. After a short pursuit and numerous attempts to ram state police vehicles, the suspect did hit one State Police vehicle, causing the suspect to lose control and run off the right shoulder of the road. No injuries were sustained.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident and a female passenger in the suspect vehicle was detained by Troopers.

Detectives determined this female was wanted on two outstanding PRAWN warrants.

Both suspects were transported to Troop A Southbury where they were processed and held on bond.

Search and seizure warrants were obtained and executed at the La Quinta Inn hotel room rented by the male suspect. Various items of evidence and a sum of money were recovered.
