State Police Investigate Armed Robbery

On 08/23/10 at approximately 10:00 p.m. Troop I- Bethany received a 911 call reporting that an armed robbery had just occurred at the Sunoco Gas Station located at 68 Waterbury Road in Prospect.  Troopers and Town Officers responded to the scene.  A search of the area was conducted for the suspects using personnel and State Police K-9 teams.

Troopers determined that the two employees were preparing to close the station when two subjects entered the station wearing bandanas over their faces and displayed a handgun.  The suspects were described as a black male and a Hispanic male.

The two victims were forced to the ground and tied up by the suspects.  The suspects took cash from the register and cigarettes from the business.  In addition, the suspects took personal property from the victims, and one of the victim’s vehicles, a Jeep Grand Cherokee bearing CT Registration #851-HZJ.  All police departments were advised of the robbery and the missing vehicle.  There were no injuries in this robbery.

State Police Detectives responded to conduct the criminal investigation into this robbery. Detectives gathered evidence and conducted interviews with several witnesses regarding this robbery.

On 08/24/10 at approximately 2:00 a.m., two vehicles related to this robbery were recovered. One was the victim’s vehicle stolen from the scene and the second vehicle was determined to be related to this robbery.  The vehicles were located abandoned behind a business on Harpers Ferry Road in Waterbury.  Both vehicles were seized by State Police and towed to Troop I. 

State Police detectives are continuing this investigation.

Troopers are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of the gas station to please call State Police Troop I at 203-393-4200.  All calls will be kept confidential.
