             STATE POLICE CONCLUDE INVESTIGATION

                   INTO ACCIDENTAL DEATH IN LYME

   On April 24, 2010, at about 3:48 p.m., State Police were notified by the Lyme

Fire Department that they had responded to a brush fire at 27 Hamburg Road.

Firefighters extinguished the brush fire and located a deceased female

outdoors near the fire scene.  Troopers immediately responded

to and secured the fire scene.

   State Police Central District Major Crime Squad Detectives responded to

investigate the untimely death at 27 Hamburg Road, Lyme.

   In addition, Troopers assingned as fire investigators in the State Fire Marshal's

Office responded to assist in this investigation.  Fire Marshal Troopers

determined that the fire started from a burning pit in the backyard which spread

to a wooded area where the victim was located.

   State Police Major Crime Detectives examined the scene and their

investigation determined that the incident appears to be accidental.

   

   The victim is identified as Rosemary Strekel (d.o.b. 01-26-47) of 27 Hamburg

Rd., Lyme, Ct.

   A post mortem examination was conducted by the Office of the Chief State’s

Medical Examiner. The death has been ruled an accident.  The cause of death is

smoke inhalation and thermal injury.

   Case is closed.
