STATE & LOCAL POLICE TRAINING ACADEMY BLOOD DRIVE

A HUGH SUCCESS

On Friday, January 2, 2009, the Connecticut State Police Training Academy sponsored a Blood Drive through the American Red Cross. State Police Recruits and staff members, as well as members of two Local Police Officer Standards and Training Council classes and staff members were invited to participate.

A healthy sense of competition was developed between the police classes. This competition resulted in a continuous donation registration line throughout the five and a half-hour collection period.

The blood donation categories were single units of whole blood and double red cell donations. Ninety-one donors registered and donated a total of seventy-nine pints of blood, five of which were double red cell donations. These police recruits were proud to have reached this level of collection for the hospitals of Connecticut.

The true winners of this blood donation event are the citizens of the State of Connecticut, the people that all three of these classes are preparing to serve.

The Connecticut hospitals serviced by the American Red Cross require 3,500 pints of blood a week.  Therefore, every donation makes a difference and may help up to three separate patients.

The Connecticut State Police Recruits and Local Police Recruits are again proud to have taken the time to change someone’s life for the better. All police officers in Connecticut support the American Red Cross blood drives and encourage everyone to give life, give blood.
