STATE POLICE ASSIST WOODBRIDGE POLICE
IN INVESTIGATING HOME INVASION CASE

   Today, May 6, 2009 at 4:31 a.m., Woodbridge police received a 911 call from a concerned neighbor who reported suspicious people in his backyard. Immediately thereafter, a second 911 call was received from the victim’s home reporting that intruders had broken into their house at 39 Merritt Avenue and they were being robbed.

   Woodbridge Police officers responded to the scene and upon arrival the suspects fled from the victim’s home. Woodbridge officers pursued the suspects and were able to take one into custody immediately.

   Woodbridge Officers determined that multiple armed suspects had forcibly entered the victim’s residence, encountered the occupants and a struggle took place.  During the struggle, one victim sustained a minor stab wound. There were no other injuries that took place during this incident. 

   All surrounding police agencies were notified of this incident. Shortly thereafter, New Haven Police Officers located and took into custody a second suspect near the Pond Lilly DOT Facility just over the line into New Haven.

   State Police K-9 teams responded to conduct K-9 tracks searching for the suspects and evidence in this case. Several items of evidence were located as well as a suspect car.

   The State Police Major Crime Squad was summoned to respond to this scene to work with Woodbridge Police in conducting a criminal investigation.

   State Police and Woodbridge Detectives are processing the crime scene and have recovered a knife that was used in this attack and other items of evidence. Additionally, the investigation has uncovered significant information and investigators are seeking additional suspects in this case.

ARRESTED:     Laurentiu Lugojanu, age 35, Trumbull, CT

                    Scott Shipley, age 33, New Haven CT

   Both accused are being held on numerous felony criminal charges including Home Invasion, Burglary, and Kidnapping.  They are both being held on $1,000,000 bond to appear at New Haven Superior Court.

   The investigation is continuing.
