                             STATE POLICE MAKE ARREST

       IN CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE, NEW HARTFORD

   An extensive criminal investigation into the assault of a 7 year old child at the New Hartford Libarby was conducted by the New Hartford Resident State Troopers Office, State Police Western District Major Crime Squad, and the State Police Forensic Laboratory.  Information and evidence developed by investigators in this case allowed State Police Detectives to submit an arrest warrant application to Superior Court for the arrest of a suspect.

   An arrest warrant was issued by the court and on Thursday 08-14-2008 at approximately 10:15 p.m. the accused was located and taken into custody without incident by State Police Major Crime Squad Detectives.

   The accused was transported to Troop-L in Litchfield where he was processed and held on $500,000 court set bond. The accused will be presented in Superior Court GA #18 Bantam today 08/15/08.

ARRESTED:   Christopher Darazs age 29, date of birth 05-01-1979

CHARGES:      Sexual Assault 1^st     

                  Unlawful Restraint 1^st 

                   Risk of Injury to a Minor.

RECOGNIZE THIS MAN ?

The Connecticut State Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the man depicted in this composite.  This man is being sought for questioning in regards to the attempted assault of a young child at the New Hartford Public Library. This attempted assault occurred inside the library on Tuesday August 5, 2008 at around 5:00 pm. He is described as a white male, about 6 feet tall, slim build, with brown hair and acne.  At the time of the incident, the male was wearing a light blue short sleeved shirt, black shorts, and white sneakers.  He was in the company of a child who was a white female described as 2 to 4 years old, wearing a pink short sleeved shirt and light blue shorts.                                     

State police are asking anyone who may have been in the area of the New Hartford Public Library on Tuesday at about 5 p.m. or anyone who has any information about the POSSIBLE identity of this individual to please call the New Hartford Resident State Trooper’s Office at (860) 379-8621 or State Police Troop B at (860) 824-2500, or toll free in CT at (800) 497-0403.
