    STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE PIPE BOMB EXPLOSION

      Today 12/15/08 at about 4:00 p.m. State Police Troop-G Bridgeport received a 911 call from a motorist who observed what he believed to be an explosion of a small bomb in the grass area located on Rt. 25 exit #9 ramp.

   State Troopers and Trumbull Fire Service responded to the blast site.  The area was secured and the exit #9 ramp was closed to traffic to allow for an investigation into this small explosive incident.

   Initial examination of the scene confirmed that a small explosion had taken place. There was no damage or injury.

   State Police Emergency Service Bomb Technician Troopers responded to conduct a post blast investigation into this incident. Bomb Technician Troopers gathered evidence at the blast site.  They were assisted by State Police Major Crime Detectives who also responded to initiate the criminal investigation into this event.

      State Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area on Rt. 25 and may have observed anything suspicious possibly related to this incident to call State Police at (203) 696-2500. Any calls received will be kept in strictest confidence.
